I want to say something about the cranberry juice craze going around THM groups right now and save you ladies some time and money and prevent you from gaining a few extra pounds during the holidays. :P Please DO NOT ingest cranberry juice ...NOT even non-sweetened tart if you intend to stay on plan or close to plan during the holidays and keep your glycemic index stable according to plan.
The medicinal benefit of cranberries is that they alkalize the body, urinary tract, and digestive system and provide the body with D-mannose. However the downside to that is that you would have to inhale GALLONS of cranberry juice for it to be medically advantageous if you had a UTI or kidney infection. Thus supplemental products like Cranactin and D-mannose are much more highly effective at healing than any amount of juice b/c the side effects of the Glycemic spike are not worth it, believe me...been there done that.
However, do not abandon use of this beautiful and healthful berries during the holidays! I stock them up in my freezer while they are less expensive, simply to help me through the year with my candida issues. Just buy bags when they go on sale immediately after the holidays and dump them in your freezer!
Ways to use whole Cranberries the THM way:

2) Another wonderful way to incorporate cranberries in in your cottage berry whip (see recipe in Trim Healthy Mama book).

3) Many THM's use gelatins for boosting immune boost and gut health and protein intake; this can be an easy way to create a cranberrymold sweetening it with your favorite onplan sweetener and adding other on plan berries.
4) also don't hesitate to add a handful of cranberries to your #singingcanary if you are prone to UTI's or infections related to Candida. High levels of vitamin C are important to ward off these infections, so keep the canary singing! ;)
5) make your slim belly jelly with half cranberries and half strawberries. It takes a doonk or two more stevia/monkfruit to sweeten to taste but it is OH SO GOOD!
